The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely delighted with the run their team is on right now. Indeed, the punters propping up our bar believe Premier League safety is guaranteed now following Saturday’s win over Huddersfield Town, much to the delight of the punters propping up our bar.
With that in mind, the collective attention amongst our resident Geordies have largely turned to the summer window. Life under Mike Ashley during a transfer window has rarely proven to be enjoyable, though our drinkers clad in black and white hope Rafa will be handed the tools to make a better go of things next season.
So, a comment from the Chronicle has proven really rather interesting. While takeover reports have once again emerged in recent days, they claim the Sports Direct mogul could be willing to work with Benitez once again this summer in case nothing to comes to fruition behind the scenes.
For his part, Benitez is reportedly thought to want written assurances that he’ll be in line for more money and the like from Ashley after a miserable time of things over the last three transfer windows.
Either way, the punters propping up our bar hope more money is spent this summer.
Surely Ashley can sell Newcastle now their survival is guaranteed. The Magpies must be an attractive prospect, especially with Benitez in tow, and a new owner would make all the difference up on Tyneside. While it’s promising to hear Ashley may be prepared to work with him again should a sale not come off, surely it’s the end of the line for the unpopular owner.
