The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are rather down in the dumps after a dreadful run of form of late and many of them are praying for January arrivals to boost Rafa Benitez on Tyneside.
Indeed, though takeover talk has gone rather quiet of late, our punters clad in black and white simply have to dream about the idea of reinforcements coming to St. James’ Park, otherwise, the frantic festive period will be far too depressing for our resident Geordies.
With that in mind, comments in the Daily Mail’s transfer column in regard to Jack Wilshere have proven rather interesting. While they focus on apparent interest in the England international from Ligue 1 side Marseille, the Magpies are also touted as a potential suitor.
Back in full flow after so many injury problems, the 25-year-old remains in the final months of his deal with Arsenal and Newcastle are reportedly among a number of sides in Europe keen to move for him, along with West Ham United and Napoli.
As you can imagine, considering their current state, the notion of signing a fit Wilshere has gone down very well here in the Tavern.
Outside of Jonjo Shelvey, Newcastle lack creativity. Adding Wilshere to their midfield would certainly give them a touch of class, something they desperately need if they are to stay up.
However, it’s hard to see Wilshere wanting to go up to St. James’ Park if they aren’t taken over.
