Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are keen to see Aleksandar Mitrovic replace Dwight Gayle during his injury but, according to The Gambling Times, things could have been much different.
The Magpies are looking good for promotion this season with much of that thanks to Dwight Gayle’s superlative form up top for the club.
He’s injured now, though, and so Rafa Benitez will be hoping that Mitrovic can step up and take his place as the title race begins to reach the final turn.
The talented forward has much expected of him despite him not cutting it just yet and it appears he could have been on his way to PSG in January – but for Newcastle rejecting the move.
According to the report, the French champions – who battered Barcelona 4-0 last week in the Champions League – were willing to pay £15 million to sign him, too, but the Magpies weren’t having any of that.
It’s proved a good decision now, too, with the former Crystal Palace man Gayle out on the sidelines.
How good can Mitrovic still get, Newcastle fans? Let us know below!
