Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their side’s crunch Premier League clash with fellow relegation contenders Southampton on Saturday, as the North East giants seek to get back to winning ways.
Rafa Benitez’s men go into this weekend’s encounter with the Saints off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Champions League chasing Liverpool in their most recent league outing, a result which brought to an end a solid four-match unbeaten run. Yet the Magpies will be seeking home comforts at St James’ Park on Saturday as they go in search of back-to-back home league victories for the first time since September, having beaten Manchester United 1-0 in their last match in the North East.
As such, there are many optimistic Newcastle fans in the Tavern ahead of the weekend, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Sun, which suggests that the club are set to sanction the departure of winger Yasin Ben El-Mhanni in the summer.
The 22-year-old made the move to St James’ Park back in 2016 after short stints at Farnborough and Lewes, yet he has only gone on to make two senior appearances for the Magpies, both of which coming in their FA Cup campaign of 2017.
Instead, the winger has often been a feature in their development squad in recent times, but reports suggest that Ben El-Mhanni will be let go in the summer at the expiration of his current contract.
And, alongside news that several Under-23 players will be released by the club at the end of the season, this update is sure to interest our resident Newcastle supporters even more.
Landlord’s verdict: Yasin Ben El-Mhanni made the move to Newcastle back in 2016, but it looks like his tally of two senior appearances for the club will be all he can muster from his time in the North East.
And that’s because reports suggest that the Magpies will sanction his departure in the summer at the expiration of his contract, with the winger reportedly one of many Under-23 players to have no future at the Premier League club.
Yet news of Ben El-Mhanni’s departure may well surprise our resident Newcastle fans, as the 22-year-old is currently waiting on an appeal into his accusations of bullying and discrimination from Under-23’s manager Peter Beardsley, what with the club reportedly rejecting those claims back in January.
Newcastle fans… what do you make of the news? Let us know!
