Newcastle should seek to replicate Kenedy transfer success by moving for £4.5m-rated youngster

Newcastle United supporters have been somewhat disappointed in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side lose 2-1 at Watford on Saturday to suffer a third consecutive Premier League defeat.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their encounter with the Hertforshire-based outfit having lost to West Brom and Everton in their previous two matches, results which brought to an end their four-game winning streak in the league. And the Magpies were unable to return to winning ways on Saturday as first half goals from Roberto Pereyra and Andre Gray proved to be enough for Javi Gracia’s side, with Ayoze Perez getting one back for Newcastle in the second half but ultimately to no avail.

As such, there have been many despondent Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their team can at least finish the season strongly, with games against Tottenham and Chelsea to come in the final week of the campaign.

Yet several of our resident Magpies supporters are already turning their attentions towards the summer and thus what business their team could seek to do, with many hoping that they can replicate their Kenedy transfer success during the close season.

And with reports suggesting that Chelsea could seek to recall Charly Musonda from his loan spell at Celtic this summer, the Magpies should seek to do just that by making a move for the £4.5 million-rated youngster (as per Transfermarkt).

Ultimately, like Kenedy, Musonda is one of many Chelsea youngsters who simply haven’t had a regular opportunity in the first team at Stamford Bridge, with the 21-year-old earning just seven senior appearances for the Blues, just two of which have been starts.

Yet, as Kenedy has proven during his time at St James’ Park, the Chelsea youth ranks are full of supremely talented individuals just waiting for a chance to prove their worth, and if given the chance at Newcastle, Musonda could well follow in the footsteps of his Blues teammate.

The attacker hasn’t quite produced the goods on loan at Celtic this term, with just eight appearances to show for his endeavours in the past few months, but a decent spell at Real Betis alongside several impressive showings for Chelsea’s youth teams underlines the talent he possesses, and indeed the potential he has to go far in the game.

And with Newcastle ideally in need of greater attacking options next term, having scored just 36 goals in their 36 Premier League games this season, Musonda could well get the regular football he needs to develop into the player his potential says he can be.

Ayoze Perez has performed solidly at times this term but ultimately doesn’t carry the attacking threat many might expect from a number ten, and with Benitez reportedly after someone in that position ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, he could turn to Musonda in the hope of replicating Kenedy’s success.

Kenedy arrived at Newcastle with a similar playing career to that of Musonda, and he has since turned out to be an inspired addition at St James’ Park.

And with 21-year-old Blues teammate Musonda arguably just as talented, luring him to Newcastle could see the Magpies reap the rewards in the Premier League next season.
