Newcastle star issues bold words that fans should love ahead of new campaign

Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern cannot wait to see their side get back into the swing of things in the Premier League.

The men from St. James’ Park have been away from the top flight for a year, of course, but now they are back and they will be eager to beat Tottenham on the opening day in front of a lively Magpies crowd.

For sure, then, things could be exciting in the north east this season but that will only be the case if the club and the players step up and make themselves a force in the top division.

Certainly, that is what the fans will be demanding and Jamaal Lascelles has been speaking about the mentality the club needs to have going into the new season.

He was quoted by Chronicle Live as saying:

“When I first signed there were some Newcastle teams in the past that would go a goal down and that would be it, game over, they’d go into their shell.

“But last season when we went a goal down or a team levelled we were the ones who went on to win.

“We have great character as a team now.

“We will not die until the final whistle has gone.”

Lascelles, then, seems fired up for the new campaign and it looks as though he is expecting his team-mates to share that fierce mentality for every ball getting kicked this season.

The Magpies fans, then, will be hoping he has predicted things right with these words.

Landlord’s Verdict

Newcastle have been guilty of crumbling in the Premier League before in recent seasons and so the fans will certainly hope Lascelles is right in saying that the club is stronger than ever.

Indeed, they’ll need to be mentally tough as they look to survive in the Premier League and if they can be they’ll have a real chance of doing just that.
