Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to see their side in action once again tomorrow but, as quoted by The Sunderland Echo, Rafa Benitez has suggested one key man may still be missing.
Whilst the likes of Leeds and Reading dropped points in the play-off places both the Magpies and title rivals Brighton won at the weekend – affirming both as the leading pretenders to this year’s crown.
It’s the men from St. James’ who currently lead the race, though, and they’ll be looking to carry that on against Norwich tomorrow night.
They may have to do so, though, without key striker Dwight Gayle with Spanish manager Benitez really unsure over whether he will be ready or not – leaving it up to the player himself.
The ex-Liverpool boss said:
“He is training with the team, and he has trained OK, but sometimes it is the confidence of the player, so we will see how he feels.”
Gayle has been out for four weeks and has been the Magpies’ main source of goals this season with 20 to his name.
The club have done well to cope without him, then, but they’ll surely want to get him back into the fold as soon as possible as this title race looks set to be heading down to the wire.
