Newcastle United have confirmed that Achraf Lazaar has been loaned out to Cosenza Calcio.
The move comes after the 27-year-old missed out on Steve Bruce’s 25-man squad for the Premier League campaign, as reported by The Shields Gazette.
Lazaar has played a total of 10 matches for Newcastle since signing from Palermo in 2016, with the most recent of those being when he featured for 62 minutes in an EFL Cup loss against Nottingham Forest in August 2017, as per Transfermarkt.
This loan to Serie B side Cosenza Calcio will be his third temporary spell away from St. James’ Park and his second back in Italy.
His most recent loan saw him head to Sheffield Wednesday for the second half of last season, where he started two games and came off the bench for another two.
It is understandable that Newcastle have loaned him out, as there was no chance of him getting any substantial game time having missed out on the 25-man Premier League squad.
The disappointing thing could be the level he will be playing at, as it doesn’t show much progression from being at Sheffield Wednesday, and at 27-years-old, he will need to prove himself quickly if he is to make it at Newcastle.
Newcastle fans, do you think Lazaar will be able to return and make an impact at St. James’ Park? Join the discussion by commenting below…Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
