Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited to hear the news that they are chasing one of England’s hottest prospects and could make him one of theirs in the summer.
The Magpies have been linked with Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst, who is out of contract with The Owls and is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs. The Daily Mail is making the claim that Newcastle is amongst the favourites to sign the 19-year-old, although they will need to compete with Manchester United and Everton.
His future looks to be away from Hillsborough as his current manager has stated that he will not be involved with the first-team until he commits his future to the club.
Newcastle’s future appears to be in the Premier League after Rafa Benitez extended their impressive run with a 2-1 victory against Leicester City, helping them to build a ten point gap between them and the bottom three. As you can imagine, our resident Geordies would love to see a talented young striker arrive considering their goal scoring problems this season, though reported interest from Old Trafford would be hard to compete with.
The locals in the Tavern will definitely be seeing Hirst as one for the future should they be able to bring him to St. James’ Park, however, a number of the punters will be more interested in who Benitez can bring in this summer to help make a more immediate impact.
