Newcastle United: Fans love Matt Le Tissier’s Andy Carroll verdict

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday via the Chronicle, Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier had his say over Newcastle United signing Andy Carroll in the summer – labelling the move a ‘PR stunt‘ by the club.
Carroll, who climbed through Newcastle’s academy ranks and bagged a brilliant Championship return of 17 goals in 39 outings during the Magpies’ 09/10 promotion campaign (Transfermarkt), has since gone on to have a topsy-turvy career. The former England international made a £36 million move to Liverpool in January 2011, and after flopping at the Anfield club, made his way to West Ham United where he accumulated 35 league goals in seven seasons (WhoScored).
Since re-signing for Newcastle last summer, Carroll has failed to match his once pristine glory days in black and white – still yet to score a goal following his return whilst suffering from a plethora of injury issues.
Sky Sports pundit Le Tissier, as a result, labelled his return to Tyneside as a ‘PR stunt‘ – with many fans on social media wholeheartedly agreeing. Find all of their best comments from Twitter down below.

And he’s absolutely right. Stupid signing regardless of pay as you play. A PR stunt that a lot of fans were appeased by.
