According to a report from The Guardian, Newcastle United forward Andy Carroll has exacerbated his injury worries by attempting a volley in training, resulting in swathes of Magpies fans venting over his reported wages at the club.
Carroll, who has played just 14 times overall for Steve Bruce’s side this campaign and failed to score a Premier League goal, is currently on the sidelines with a hip flexor injury, reportedly made worse through his attempt to connect a volley in training. The Guardian also revealed that Carroll is currently on a basic £20,000 per week flat fee, inflated by appearance clauses in which he earns £75,000 for a starting place and £35,000 for an appearance on the substitutes’ bench.
Should Newcastle give Andy Carroll a new deal?

20k a week is not ‘pay as you play’ in my book.

Get rid. Unplayable and I like him. But he’s always injured. We can’t afford passengers.

£55k a week just to play 10 minutes at the end of a game, or £20k to do nowt. Couldn’t have just spent the full wage on getting Rondon?

Rondon wanted mega money, although we do still pay Colback £50k a week to exist.

Do you think Carroll should be paid a ‘basic’ £20,000 per week wage along with appearance bonuses? Join the discussion by commenting below…
