According to an update from Sky Sports, Newcastle United may face competition for the signature of want-away Spurs defender Danny Rose from fellow Premier League outfits Watford and Bournemouth – but some Magpies supporters would prefer if they call off the pursuit entirely.
Rose, who has been out of favour under new Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho despite his seeming resurgence to form last year, is currently being eyed by various top-flight suitors according to Sky – including Newcastle who may want to bring the left-back in on loan.
The England international, who averaged a 90% pass accuracy rate for his country during their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign (SofaScore), could be seen as a potential solution to Steve Bruce’s bereft left-flank after Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett were ruled out for the rest of the season. Compared to Willems in particular, Rose has averaged more offside decisions won per game (0.3) while making more clearances in the league (2.5) – whereas the Dutchman has superiority in terms of tackles (1.9) and interceptions (0.9), as per WhoScored.com.
One fan disparagingly likened Rose to DeAndre Yedlin, especially when taking to account the American has averaged the exact same amount of challenges per game (1.5) this season. However, the fellow ex-Sunderland loanee does hold better numbers when it comes to interceptions (0.7) and blocks (0.5), debatably making a pursuit worthwhile. Regardless, these supporters still feel that any chase for the 29-year-old would be a waste of time, with one fan dismissing the Spurs defender as “average”:

He’s fast & that’s it, abilitywise nah. Not very good defensively & if someone’s in front of him he rarely gets past them. IMO!
