Newcastle United: Fabian Schar’s gratitude over winning 2019 Player of the Year award has many Magpies supporters gushing

Responding to his awarding of the 2019 Player of the Year award on Sunday evening, Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has since taken to Twitter in order to express his gratitude at being handed the coveted honour – with many supporters expressing their appreciation for the player right back at him.
Schar, who has sporadically featured for the Magpies recently despite having a stellar 2018/19 season, started Newcastle’s most recent encounter, a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in which he managed to test keeper Vicente Guaita from long range. Under Rafael Benitez, Schar was a regular starter and his defensive marshalling of the backline could well have been a key reason why they finished in the top 10 last season.
Compared to fellow defender Jamaal Lascelles this campaign, Schar managed to double his tackles per game (2.5) and number of interceptions made (2.8) when playing regularly last season, as per WhoScored.com – perhaps hinting at the quality he possesses in defence. Responding to Schar’s message on Twitter, many Newcastle fans have applauded the Swiss international, with one supporter calling him ‘absolutely solid’ – find all of their best comments down below.

Absolutely solid player, just a real shame it’s under this horrific regime.
