Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking forward to next weekend’s fixture with Leicester City after a win against Huddersfield Town last time out as they look to build confidence in the final run-in.
The Magpies will visit the King Power Stadium on Saturday knowing one more win could keep them in the Premier League and Rafa Benitez will be hoping that he will have Mohamed Diame available for the game.
The midfielder had to be taken off during the second half against the Terriers with a knock, however, the extent of the injury is unknown. The Senegal international has been in good form for the Toon Army in recent months and has been an integral part of how the Magpies have been playing.
Benitez will have to wait for the outcome of his injury, however, he is still holding out hope that he is fit for their match with the Foxes.
“I hope so,” he told the Shields Gazette.
“He’s been really important for us, but I will say again, Hayden [Issac] and [Mikel] Merino can manage also his position really well.
“Hopefully, it will be nothing, and it will be a problem for me, but a good problem.”
Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be concerned that Diame may miss their crucial clash with Leicester at the weekend as he has become a key player in their impressive form. The Magpies have risen to 12th in the table and locals will believe a win against the Foxes will help them keep their place in the Premier League next season.
Oddly enough, Diame has suddenly become one of Newcastle’s most important players, so missing him would be a huge blow.
