Back in September 2019, the Chronicle reported that Newcastle United were keeping tabs on MLS striker Josef Martinez ahead of a potential January swoop - with these Magpies fans now begging the club to reignite their interest in Miguel Almiron's former teammate.

Martinez, who bagged 33 goals in 39 appearances last season for Atlanta United (Transfermarkt), has been a prolific figure in the United States - briefly partnering current Magpies player Almiron during his time at the club.

Now, with the January window open and running, some Newcastle supporters have urged the club to sign Martinez - with his numbers in terms of goals and assists far outweighing those of Andy Carroll and Joelinton, who have only found the net once between them this season.

Comparing other attributes, Carroll and Joelinton appear to be dominant when it comes to aerial duels, winning on average 5 and 5.8 of them per game respectively. However, Martinez has almost quadrupled their numbers in terms of shots per game (4) - as per WhoScored.com.

As a result, these Newcastle fans have begged the club to reaffirm their interest in bringing the Venezuelan to St. James' Park. Here's what they had to say on social media about the potential 'dream signing'.
