Many Newcastle United fans are buzzing at a claim from ChronicleLive that Donny van de Beek should be the first signing at St. James’ Park if a takeover goes through.
As per the outlet, the 23-year-old is an attacking midfield player whose style is reminiscent of Georginio Wijnaldum upon his introduction to English football in 2015, as the former PSV Eindhoven man joined the Tyneside club that year.
The outlet compared Gini’s style upon signing at St. James’ Park to that of van de Beek at present. Indeed, the Ajax ace has an eye for goal but is also on hand to create plenty of opportunities for his teammates too. He has scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in 37 games in all competitions, according to Transfermarkt.
In terms of finer detail, the report claims that van de Beek is much like Wijnaldum as he not very influential in terms of how many touches he enjoys per match, but he is decisively influential with his output.
These members of the Toon faithful were buzzing upon reading the claim on Twitter:

Thats the sort of intelligent type of signing i would like see over older marquee players. We will need mixture of youth and experience however like the look of this lad.
