Making just seven appearances off the bench so far this season for a combined 124 minutes in a flurry of brief cameos, Newcastle United supporters have called on Andy Carroll to become the saviour against Manchester City at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
The Englishman returned to his boyhood club in the summer on a free transfer from West Ham following a few seasons completely marred by injury, but one thing hasn’t changed, he is capable of making an impact with his presence.
Carroll burst on to the scene with Newcastle back in the 2009/2010 season during their brief Championship hiatus, with the youngster becoming a crucial component of the Magpies’ intimidating forward line and a great asset in holding the ball up.
Now, after nearly ten seasons away from Tyneside, he has returned in a bid to help Steve Bruce’s men avoid the drop again.
Despite not impressing when given the chance so far, some supporters feel like it is high time for him to make the grade – here’s what they had to say on social media.
Yes, front 3 have not scored enough and i think carroll will hold the ball up more tomorrow! He isnt gonna get much service but need someone who is rough as city’s defence are not playing great!!

Carroll up front joelinton behind Almiron and maxi on the wings and s longstaff and Hayden in the middle Hayden holding to protect back 2 of Clark and Lejeune and Krafth and Willems full backs. Yedlin should be used as a winger also not a full back
