Some Newcastle United fans have discussed their former man Laurent Robert after one of his ex-teammates at Pompey, Andy Griffin, talked about him to Portsmouth News.
He said that the 44-year old was a sensational player and claims that his best years were at St. James’ Park. However, he did admit that when Robert went to the south coast he was not as successful.
Indeed, the Frenchman only managed 17 appearances in his one season at Portsmouth, scoring one goal according to Transfermarkt.
Griffin also said that Robert was one of the best left-footed players he has ever played with, alongside Ian Harte and Patrik Berger. He added that other days he did not have a care in the world and that you would have to carry him, but in the next game he would get the winner and be unstoppable.
Robert netted 31 times and also provided 10 assists in 175 matches in all competitions for the Tyneside club, as per Transfermarkt.
These Magpies discussed their former winger on Twitter after seeing Griffin’s comments, with one member of the Toon faithful branding him a ‘legend’. Another responded to a fellow supporters claim that Robert never tracked back by saying ‘thanks, Pardew’ in reference to former manager Alan Pardew.
One of the best left footed player I’ve ever seen. He could crack a ball.
