Newcastle United: Fans dismiss Paul Dummett’s inclusion in Alan Shearer’s TOTW

Following the inclusion of Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett in Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week, some supporters have disagreed with the decision to place him in the eleven – mostly making a case for Javier Manquillo to get a slot instead.
The Welshman, who was deployed as a left wing-back during the Magpies’ dramatic 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, seemingly put on a decent performance – but according to some fans, he didn’t exactly shine going forward on the overlap.
By comparison, fellow full-back Javier Manquillo put on another solid display in his man marking of Palace danger man Wilfried Zaha – winning the plaudits of Magpies supporters following an assured showing.
Shearer, who opted for Dummett instead, also included two other Newcastle players in shot-stopper Martin Dubravka and Miguel Almiron – the latter grabbing his first goal in black and white.
Here’s how Newcastle supporters dismissed Dummett’s inclusion in Shearer’s side.
Dummett was simply awful

Dreadful in final third sadly. Not improved in that area in years. Top lad, defends like his life depends on it. Just not a great Premiership full back / wing back.

I agree I didn’t think dummett had a good game at all. His crossing was below par and I recall him giving the ball away a few too many times. On the other hand, manquillo has a fantastic game considering he was playing against a fantastic player. But who are we to know

Manquillo was much better than Dummett in the Palace game. Dummets crosses were diabolical. Every time the ball was passed out to him the fans in the pub groaned. Willems was sorely missed.

Manquillo definitely over dummet, was at the game and dummet was getting stick for making consistent mistakes

He can’t beat the first man with a cross. If willelms was in we would have won that sooner
