Newcastle United: Fans fire back at Michael Owen following Shearer spat

Newcastle United fans took to Twitter to slam Michael Owen after his comments about Alan Shearer reignited an old feud between the two former Newcastle men.
Michael Owen can’t resist another dig at Alan Shearer, who he says blames him for relegation at #NUFC in 2009.
“If that’s how he’s overcome his disappointment of not being a success as Newcastle manager, then that’s fine in a way.”pic.twitter.com/I2vuM9kIGF

Michael Owen seems to be making more enemies than friends after the release of his new autobiography, Reboot – My Life, My Time, which hit the shelves this week.
Owen, who spent five injury-ridden seasons with the Magpies, described joining Newcastle from Real Madrid as a “downward step” in his book, and he has now lifted the lid on a 10-year spat between himself and Newcastle legend, Alan Shearer.
The two played alongside each other at St. James Park; however, Shearer changed from teammate to boss in 2009 when he became interim manager for the club.
In that year, the Magpies were relegated from the Premier League, which Owen believes was Shearer’s fault, claiming his management was “dire” and as a result, the two traded words in a Twitter spat.
As you can imagine, Newcastle fans have come out in force to defend their hometown hero. Here’s what they had to say…
Wasn’t it Paul Ferris’ book who said Owen didn’t want the last game? Blokes a idiot man trying to promote his book by slating Newcastle and now trying to start with Shearer #NUFC https://t.co/U6UR2IBGMl

id just leave it now. you are universally disliked by football fans and even more so now. you have ended up being an insignificant has-been. you basically finished your own career by your disgusting attitude and lack of heart and then couldn’t get a game for man utd or stoke…

You are disliked not by opposition clubs fans but by fans of clubs YOU ACTUALLY PLAYED FOR 👍

The best way to deal with Michael Owen is to simply not listen to him.
He’s now just trying to drum up sales of his book.
Such a shame that he is doing it this way.

Really? Refusing to play because you didn’t want it to mess up your next move once your contract ran out in case you got injured? You know, the £120k a week contract you were paid to score goals and keep #nufc in the premier league. Plus bonuses.Unbelievable @themichaelowen
