Christian Atsu earned himself a number of plaudits for his performance on Saturday afternoon after taking to Twitter to share an image following Newcastle United’s impressive 2-2 draw with Manchester City at St. James’ Park (BBC).

As is the norm in the social media age, the Ghana international uploaded an image to the media outlet sharing a picture of him celebrating with Jonjo Shelvey after providing him with the assist to give the Magpies what appeared to be an unlikely point – as they had just 23% of the ball (WhoScored).
Man City had taken the lead through Raheem Sterling although that was short-lived as Jethro Willems pulled Steve Bruce’s side back level before the half-time whistle.
Kevin De Bruyne would have thought he had done enough to give Pep Guardiola’s side all three points at St. James’ Park with his late strike, however Shelvey’s wonderful effort beat Ederson and gave the hosts a share of the points.
Atsu was lauded by one fan on social media as an ‘unsung hero’ for Newcastle after a couple of contributions recently and appeared to make the most of the limited opportunities he had on the pitch on Saturday.
According to the data analysts WhoScored, the 27-year-old only had two touches of the ball in the 10 minutes or so he was on the pitch, making two passes with one resulting in the assist and being recorded as a key pass.
Other fans were left delighted with the impact he had made and shared their own pleasant messages to him.
Here are just some of their reactions…
