It’s been just under a week since Newcastle United secured their second victory on the trot with a 2-1 home win over Southampton, and with other challenging fixtures looming on the calendar, including a Boxing Day away trip to face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United, supporters have taken the time to praise Andy Carroll for his work rate against the Saints.
Who should start for Newcastle, Joelinton or Andy Carroll?
The Magpies striker re-signed at St. James’ Park in the summer for free in a deal that surprised a few supporters, but after his hard-working display against Southampton, which included assisting Jonjo Shelvey’s equalising goal, fans understand why his acquisition could be a potentially important one for the campaign ahead.
Newcastle’s official Twitter account showcased just why Carroll should get praise after the victory, publishing a clip of him running tirelessly in a bid to prevent a Saints full-back from putting a dangerous cross into the penalty area – jumping into a challenge and endearing himself to the Geordie faithful once again.
Here’s how supporters reacted on social media.
I feel like he is giving 200% effort with us this time.

Good to see Andy’s energy and determination coming back. Newcastle is where he belongs and naturally he plays well.
