Newcastle United: Fans highlight ‘abysmal’ stat following Burnley loss

Following their first loss since late November on Saturday afternoon, a sub-par 1-0 defeat away to Burnley on Saturday, some supporters have panicked following a particular statistic that came to light after the match – with Newcastle United not having a single shot on target all game.
Have Newcastle's recent wins flattered to deceive?
Yes

No

Although the Magpies created a great chance in the last minute, with forward Dwight Gayle spurning the fantastic opportunity, Clarets ‘keeper Nick Pope wasn’t tested once – prompting a section of Newcastle supporters to suggest an array of solutions whilst simultaneously damning their side’s ineptitude going forward.
Indeed, even during their impressive three-game unbeaten streak, including a draw against champions Manchester City, their goals in those games mostly came from midfield – with Jonjo Shelvey finding the net in all of those encounters.
This could highlight a lack of goalscoring prowess in the forward positions, especially when target man Joelinton has found the net just once all campaign. In fact, one fan even suggested the club should move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos in the January transfer window, a player who was linked with a move during Rafa Benitez’s time in charge by Don Balon back in May.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the alarming statistic on Twitter.
We should go in for Morelos in Jan , ticks all the boxes.

Abysmal. We need forward players in the window badly.

Joelinton needs a good head rattle, drop him please

Sounds more of the same as previous two games, but somehow we scored in them

I’ve done my best to defend Joelinton all season. I’ve now come to the conclusion he’s a massive waste of 40m and not worthy of the No. 9 shirt. Out wide his passing was horrendous minus that cross to Gayle. Just can’t defend him anymore

Just shows how much the two wingers mean to us. Atsu is shocking.
