Newcastle United: Fans laud Andy Carroll for crucial impact against Southampton

After signing on a free transfer in the summer from West Ham United, fans could have been forgiven for being sceptical over Andy Carroll’s return to St. James’ Park given his marred recent seasons through injury. But after putting the ball on a plate for Newcastle’s equaliser against Southampton at the weekend, most supporters have since been singing his praises.
The Saints originally took the lead just after half time when Danny Ings smashed the ball past Martin Dubravka to give Steve Bruce’s side a difficult task in breaking down a recently resolute Southampton defence.
Who should start for Newcastle, Joelinton or Andy Carroll?
Joelinton

Carroll

However, just 15 minutes later in the half, the Magpies did just that – with born again hero Carroll being on the delivering end of a superb cross which Jonjo Shelvey converted with a header at the far post.
From then on, it was Newcastle’s three points for the taking – battering at the door before defender Federico Fernandez converted a rebound to gift them a huge home win heading into the middle of December.
However, given his monumentous introduction, most Magpies supporters were mainly thanking one man.
Here’s what they had to say on social media.
For me Andy Carroll today showed what being a centre forward is about. Changed the game.
Physical, strong in the air. Put himself all over. Can’t see how Joelinton game will improve to show that kind of presence #NUFC
