Some Newcastle United fans have been lauding Jack Colback, despite his Sunderland roots, as Jonjo Shelvey told In The Box (via ChronicleLive) that the central midfield player is near enough the Tyneside club’s best trainer.
As per the outlet, Colback has not played a competitive game for the Magpies in three years so perhaps this is a shocking claim. However, the 30-year old suffered a knee injury this year so maybe Shelvey has taken notice of his dedication to get back to full fitness.
The pair remain close and the 28-year old justified this by naming Colback in his dream 11. However, the latter was not part of Rafa Benitez’ plans upon the Toon’s return to the Premier League, but Shelvey insists that he still comes in and trains hard every day.
Indeed, Colback made 102 appearances for NUFC in all competitions between 2014 and 2017, scoring five goals and providing ten assists, according to Transfermarkt.
Who would you rather have in your midfield at the moment?
These supporters lauded their man on Twitter:
Massive respect to someone turning up to work as per contract. What a guy

I think he is still a canny player…at least he tries

Its how someone of his ability has got to where he is. Crazy work effort. Will be thousands who were much better players than him who never made it. Lack of dedication and effort. Fair play to him, hope he gets a career back soon.

Always a good pro, was his dream to play for NUFC, had some very good games, just hasn’t worked out. Good luck.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. Lots of #NUFC fans have short memories. He was excellent his first season, outstanding in the championship and if he hadn’t fallen out with Rafa, he’d be still in the squad now.

Looks like Colback and Dubravka are off to Barcelona then
