Newcastle United fans on Twitter laugh at West Ham for ending up with David Moyes

The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are delighted that Rafa Benitez remains in charge at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United suffered a 0-1 home defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon after Steve Cook rose highest to nod home an emphatic winner for the south-coast travellers deep into injury time. Cook’s late header condemned Newcastle to back to back defeats for the first time since the opening two matches of the season. However, despite suffering consecutive 1 nil defeats in the Premier League, Benitez remains a firm-favourite amongst the Newcastle fans.

The Toon Army propping up the bar were concerned for Benitez’s future yesterday after West Ham publicly confirmed the dismissal of Slaven Bilic. The sacking of Bilic on Monday morning had temporarily put Benitez’s future in doubt (considering his previous links) on Tyneside, as speculation concerning Bilic’s successor continued to link him with the vacant job at West Ham.

However, the fears of the Newcastle United faithful were swiftly put to rest this morning when David Moyes was confirmed as the new manager at the London Stadium.

A handful of the Newcastle supporters have taken to Twitter this morning to poke fun at the Hammers for their appointment of Moyes, after they had been demanding a high-profile appointment such as Benitez on social media.
