According to an update on Twitter from Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Newcastle United’s loan pursuit of Schalke midfielder Nabil Bentaleb will cost the club around £850,000 and could pay all of the player’s wages during his time at St. James’ Park – with Sky Germany also reporting that there is an £8.5 million option to buy after the deal’s conclusion.
Bentaleb, who hasn’t featured for the Bundesliga side this campaign after being frozen out in March, is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan move to Tyneside in a bid to help the Magpies secure Premier League safety (Sky Sports). The former Tottenham midfielder, when compared to current Newcastle central man Jonjo Shelvey (stats from this season prior to last night’s game), amassed a superior pass success rate (79.3%) when playing regularly last season whilst also making more tackles (1.3) and interceptions (1.4) on average as per WhoScored.com. Bentaleb’s proven English top-flight experience with Spurs, where he managed 66 total appearances for the London side (Transfermarkt), could also be a factor in why the Magpies are willing to make a potential deal happen.
Surrounding Downie’s update, Newcastle fans have been enthusiastic over the potential ‘bargain’ loan signing – find all of their best comments down below.
