Many Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on social media after Toon boss Steve Bruce claimed the Magpies’ performance at Leicester City on Sunday was a ‘complete surrender’.
Do you seriously think Peter Kenyon will purchase Newcastle United?
Newcastle were thrashed by Brendon Rodgers’ Foxes at the weekend, after a brace by Jamie Vardy, own goal by Paul Dummett and a late strike by Wilfried Ndidi extended the hosts’ advantage following Ricardo Pereira’s first-half opener.
The result leaves Newcastle second from bottom in the Premier League standings after the opening seven games of the term, with only the winless Watford behind the Magpies as goal difference ensures Aston Villa sit marginally closer to safety.
Bruce was left particularly frustrated by Newcastle conceding three in ten minutes as he suffered his joint-heaviest defeat as an English top-flight manager (TransferMarkt), and claimed after the game that his side’s defending left the Toon in a ‘horrible situation’.
In quotes reported by the Chronicle, Bruce told reporters when asked if Newcastle threw in the towel: “I think that’s a bit strong. It’s a difficult one, because [the] second and third goals came so quickly. Some of our defending left a lot to be desired, and it all ended up in a horrible, horrible situation for us.”
Bruce later contradicted himself somewhat, however, adding: “[The players] haven’t shown enough resilience [against Leicester], I can’t defend them. There was a complete surrender too quickly, too easily.”
When Bruce’s contradictory comments were later shared on social media by Newcastle fan account NUFC 360, lots of Toon supporters were quick to point the blame back at their head coach, with one suggesting that it was ‘crystal clear’ that the first-team do not want to play for him.
Another suggested the players do not know what their responsibilities are under Bruce, and that the 58-year-old is ‘completely out of his depth’.
Here is a roundup of some of the comments shared…

He’s genuinely just a stupid man. When he speaks he makes no sense and contradicts himself all the time

To me, that performance today was a mirror image of Steve Bruce! All round clueless and completely out of depth at this level
