As per the outlet, Ritchie claimed that he tells his teammate at the Tyneside club regularly that he can reach the heights if his head was screwed on.
The Scottish international also picked the Englishman in his dream eleven, adding that he has been at St. James’ Park for four years and has never seen him inside the box more than 10 times.
Ritchie raved about Shelvey’s natural ability to see passes and to receive and move the ball, and also reminisced about a time when they played each other as kids and Shelvey scored an unbelievable hat-trick.
The 30-year old added that at the Magpies, Shelvey hits the longer passes, and he is the one they look to open teams up and create. Ritchie claimed that if he was playing at Barcelona or Real Madrid, he would just blow teams away with his ability.
These members of the Toon faithful reacted to the claim on Twitter:

He thinks Ashley’s a good owner so his opinion doesn’t mean much.

In other words if he put the effort in for 90 mins every game, he might actually be a decent player…

Says more about Richie’s judgement than Shelvey’s skill level!
