Lots of Newcastle fans have been reacting to an early January transfer update, as The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards says there is a ‘growing sense signings need to be made’.
The festive fixtures can make or break a season in the Premier League, and for Newcastle they may just have broken it.
Steve Bruce’s side were in terrific form entering Christmas, nudging their way into the top ten ahead of a Boxing Day trip to Old Trafford.
Three defeats and a couple of injuries later however, and things are looking very grim at St. James’ Park, which is perhaps what has prompted the realisation that January business is necessary.
No sign of any early window incomings at #nufc but there is a growing sense signings need to be made. Loan market with a view to buy is naturally of interest. Hull don’t want to sell Bowen this month, Newcastle still likely to try. Injury list will shorten considerably next week.

Edwards’ claim that there is ‘no sign’ of early signings but that the club is quickly realising action must be taken suggests something of a panic regarding potential incomings, perhaps even meaning that until the turn of form the club were happy to continue with the current squad.
Unsurprisingly, the Toon Army haven’t taken too kindly to the update, and you can catch some of the best responses down below…
“naturally” – how? Is it 1990 again?
The injury list could easily lengthen too!

Mike Ashley won’t let Bruce buy any players & Steve his yes man will bow down to him

So we’re going to focus on one player we have zero chance of signing until we announce publicly that we couldn’t get the deal “over the line” and thus sign no one. All we’re missing is the takeover rumours and it would the same as every transfer window under Cashley

Those coming back from injury will no doubt be hailed as “like a new signing” as will any contract extensions… Orwell could have had a field day with writing about #NUFC

Luke, are you bored in the office and on a wind up now? You know as well as the rest of us how this works.
1-Spec and rumour from Jan 1st onward.
2-No singings as the final week of the window arrives.
3- Final day arrives and we sign a free t or loan. Sibierski, Kuqi, Ireland.
