Following a mixed season so far for Newcastle United, winning back to back games for the first time this season whilst getting off to a slow start, supporters have taken the opportunity to reminisce over better times – drooling over Yohan Cabaye’s wonder goal away to Aston Villa back in 2013.
Cabaye’s strike encapsulates the peak era of Alan Pardew’s reign as Newcastle boss, when the Magpies were in the midst of a Europa League campaign following a brilliant 2011/2012 season where they finished fifth and defied all expectations.
Supporters will look back at the era fondly remembering the incredible form of Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba, whilst also drawing attention to Cabaye’s crucial displays that cemented his status as one of the Tyneside club’s best players of the decade.
Responding to a club post on Twitter which looked back at the brilliant long-range effort, where the Frenchman took a shoddy Ron Vlaar clearance on the half-volley and smashed a looping effort over Brad Guzan into the top corner, fans reminisced.
Even though the Magpies struggled in the league that year, Cabaye’s shot cemented a crucial 2-1 win at Villa Park to get them back on course.
Here’s how the Newcastle fans praised the incredible effort on social media.
