Newcastle United: Fans reply to Lascelles after Toon defender reflects on Watford draw

Many Newcastle United supporters have been replying to a post shared by Jamaal Lascelles on social media, after the Toon defender reflected on a key moment during the Magpies’ draw with Watford on Saturday.

Javi Gracia’s Hornets arrived at St. James’ Park for the Premier League encounter without a point to their name this season, but nosed ahead after just 78 seconds when Will Hughes poked home a deflected Tom Cleverly effort.

Lascelles’ centre-half partner Fabian Schar later pulled the hosts back level four minutes before the break, when the Swiss international slotted a 10-yard effort beyond Ben Foster following a knockdown by Isaac Hayden.

Derby-born Lascelles was frequently involved in the action as Newcastle moved up to 14th place going into the international break, including a gut-busting run from the 25-year-old as he burst down the left-flank.

The Toon captain was the least busy of the three Newcastle centre-backs defensively, though, as Lascelles did not attempt a single tackle against Gracia’s Watford, while his two successful aerial duels came in the second and 87th minutes, according to data collected by WhoScored.

He was involved in a key moment during the draw on Saturday, however, as he was forced off the field requiring treatment to a bloody nose, but displayed an intent to swiftly return to the action.

Lascelles taking to social media to reflect on this moment has seen the Magpies leader receive a wealth of appreciation from the St. James’ Park faithful.
