After consecutive wins against West Ham and Bournemouth, scoring more than one goal in each of them despite glaring forward problems, Newcastle United fans are still expecting the worst ahead of a long season.
In their latest outing, a 2-1 victory over the Cherries at St. James’ Park, Harry Wilson opened the scoring for the visitors before defenders DeAndre Yedlin and Ciaran Clark fired Newcastle into the lead.
Is Ciaran Clark under appreciated as a Newcastle player?
Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron had chances to add to proceedings, and to open their accounts this season, but couldn’t quite manage it on an eventful afternoon.
Despite encouraging signs in their most recent encounters, Magpies supporters are still expecting the worst over a long campaign – sarcastically highlighting owner Mike Ashley’s ambition is to finish 17th.
Indeed, over the last decade, supporters have appeared to expect nothing less from the board and their decision making.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
Mid table mediocrity.

Based on ashleys ambition 17th with a new owner top 10

The current regime would take 17th every season

Top half but unfortunately 17th is the aim as always

To avoid relegation, if you say anything else you’re deluded! None of our attackers can score! Good job we’re half decent at the back
