Newcastle United: Many fans slam Dwight Gayle for missed chance vs Burnley

Newcastle couldn’t earn themselves a point when they visited Burnley on Saturday, and their 1-0 loss meant fans weren’t pleased with the lack of striking ability in the squad. The Magpies started with Andy Carroll, who couldn’t find the net, and then brought on Dwight Gayle, who missed a big chance to snatch a draw.
Chronicle Live noted how the Burnley defence “couldn’t live with” Carroll in the air in the first half, rating him 7/10, but they gave Gayle just a 5/10. The start of Gayle’s season was stifled by injury, and he’s played 64 minutes so far this campaign without finding the net. He’s not been able to convert his Championship form of 47 goals in 67 appearances to the Premier league, and that’s worrying supporters.
After the game, many fans took to Twitter to express their frustrations at the 29-year-old for not securing the point. They were quick to condemn him for the missed opportunity from less than 10 yards out and made their opinions clear.
You can see some of the tweets from fans below:
Gayle just missed the kind of chance Joelinton would be stoned for, absolutely shocking.
Our strike force is absolute PONY

Hope Almiron and Shelves are alright for the next game I think we really missed them but Gayle should have scored late on we need to stop depending on ASM and Shelves for chances

My reaction while watching #NUFC today when Atsu hesitated to shoot twice from good angles, and when Dwight Gayle wasted a golden opportunity to make it 1-1. 😐 pic.twitter.com/rV5Tuy9Oqn

Newcastle fans, do you think Dwight Gayle deserves more opportunities to prove he can perform well in the Premier League?
