Many Newcastle United supporters are still raving over Yohan Cabaye’s sensational free-kick against Manchester United at St. James’ Park.
Cabaye has scored plenty of eye-catching set-pieces throughout his career and his iconic finish against United was no exception.
The club’s official Twitter account uploaded the footage of the Frenchman’s goal in the 3-0 win over the Red Devils in 2012. The dead-ball specialist whipped in a screamer from outside of the box, with the ball ricocheting off the top of the crossbar, sending the home crowd into scenes of wild celebration.
Cabaye featured in 93 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 18 goals and creating 14 assists, before leaving Newcastle for French giants Paris Saint-Germain for a reported transfer fee worth £22.5m via Transfermarkt. He currently earns a living for Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne.
Although his departure from Tyneside was rather acrimonious, the 34-year-old still receives plenty of affection from a large number of the Toon Army, with one supporter dubbing him the “French magician.” Another remarked he created the “stuff of fairytales” on the pitch.
