After Newcastle Chronicle journalist John Gibson claimed that St. James’ Park was becoming a ‘fortress’ again after two home games unbeaten in the Premier League, supporters were quick to dash the notion with immediate effect.
The Magpies drew 2-2 at home to Premier League champions Manchester City in their last home outing, with two superb strikes from Jetro Willems and Jonjo Shelvey equalising in either half to seal an heroic point.
How pleased are you for Miguel Almiron?
Proven nothing yet
Beforehand, Steve Bruce’s side also beat Bournemouth 2-1 a month ago – with goals from DeAndre Yedlin and Federico Fernandez clinching all three points after Harry Wilson put the Cherries in front.
Indeed, especially this season, their form at St. James’ Park has been the source of much optimism – having avoided defeat on Tyneside since the opening game of the season against Arsenal.
However, fans are definitely not flooding back into the ground just yet, with huge controversy surrounding Mike Ashley’s continued ownership of the club.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
You lot man, give it a rest

Bit of an exaggeration. We’ve won 2 home games.

Many fans want a change in ownership or at least a real vision to win. Ashley had a world class manager in Rafa Benitez running the club and yet would not take the steps necessary to allow our club to be the best it possibly Gould be. Rafa left for China. That’s all on Ashley.
