Newcastle United’s loss away to Aston Villa put an end to what was looking like a mini-resurgence under Steve Bruce.
Goals from Conor Hourihane and Anwar El-Ghazi put the Magpies to the sword last night in what a miserable return to Villa Park for the Toon chief, who was booed by home fans outside the stadium as the teams made their way in before the game.
Given the disappointing result and one that leaves the Toon Army five points clear of the relegation zone on a weekend where Norwich and Southampton both picked up points, Bruce was always unlikely to be the only one who invoked the ire of supporters online and a certain DeAndre Yedlin was definitely a figure of frustration.
The American international gave away the foul on Jack Grealish that led to Hourihane’s first-half opener and recorded a pass completion rate (via WhoScored) of just 68.2%, the second-lowest of any Newcastle starter. Handed a match rating of just 3/10 by the Chronicle, it’s fair to say the former Tottenham man was getting some stick on social media.
Having said that, here’s a closer look at it.
Yedlin is awful tonight. What a stupid foul to give a away #NUFC

Reckon if Yedlin didn't have pace he'd be working in Mcdonald's. Definitely wouldn't be a footballer.

Yedlin doesn't make that stupid foul it's still 0-0
