It’s been a fairly slow summer thus far for the Newcastle United fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern, to say the least.
While much was expected of the club on this front as the ‘Rafalution’ entered its second stage, manager Rafa Benitez has described the current state of play in the transfer market as ‘crazy’. Annoyingly for our resident Geordies, it’s meant they’ve only added two players to their squad – one of whom was on loan last season!
Still, the members of the Toon Army propping up our have been excited by reports from the Sun. They claim Benitez has made contact with former club Liverpool, over a potential move for England U20 World Cup hero, Sheyi Ojo.
The winger has been linked with a move to both the Magpies and Middlesbrough, though the newly-promoted Premier League outfit are understood to be poised to make a £10m bid. A loan offer is said to have been snubbed by the Reds, though Ojo will now reportedly be left off their tour of Asia to think about a potential switch.
Jurgen Klopp will apparently let the former MK Dons trainee leave Anfield is the fee is enough, with competition for places intense after the arrival of Mo Salah on Merseyside. Meanwhile, Benitez is believed to have admired Ojo for a while now and the Newcastle fans in our bar are desperate to see him arrive.
