Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hopeful for some of their new signings to have a huge impact on proceedings, as relegation still looms large for the Magpies.
United ended the transfer window still feeling slightly disappointed with the lack of business completed, but having secured the all important signing of a striker they’ll be hoping this is a sign of better things to come. Indeed, Islam Slimani making the loan switch to St James’ Park from Leicester City was surrounded with doubt, as the Algerian made the move across while carrying a thigh injury. Although, according to an image that surfaced on Newcastle United’s Twitter account, Slimani looks to be training with the Magpies ahead of their clash with Crystal Palace.

Indeed, this is great news for the Toon Army as their supposed saviour was originally thought to have been sidelined for up to two weeks, although judging by the club’s post it looks as if he may return sooner than expected. A huge boost for both fans and Rafa Benitez, after the ineffective Joselu attracted a lot of negative attention due to his woeful penalty miss in their 1-1 draw with Burnley midweek.
Although there isn’t a definite answer as to whether he’ll feature at the weekend, signs of him back in training will provide a huge buzz around St James’ Park knowing that a goalscorer is almost set to grace the scene. And, after Joselu’s performance midweek this couldn’t come at an any better time, as they hope it’ll lift the spirits ahead of their relegation crunch match.
