Following Newcastle United’s loss away to Aston Villa last night, Alan Shearer took to Twitter to slam the lack of goal threat from Steve Bruce’s side.
Is it Joelinton's fault given his lack of service?
Indeed, when Ciaran Clark is the top scorer over two months into the campaign, it barely says a lot about the Toon’s strike force, with only 1 goal coming from their expensively assembled frontline.
The scorer of that goal may well have been Joelinton against Tottenham back in August though the Brazilian certainly invoked the ire of some Magpies fans online. A £40m addition over the course of the summer and the most expensive player to ever pull on the famous black and white strip, the former Hoffenheim ace was virtually non-existent on a miserable night in the Midlands for the travelling Toon Army.
As per WhoScored, the 23-year-old didn’t register a single shot on target and the Chronicle rated him as just 4/10, claiming he had ‘nowhere near’ enough impact in the opposition box as his wait for a second goal goes on.
So, having said all that, here’s a look at some of the response last night.
40m for Joelinton is the most blatant robbery in modern day football #NUFC
