The crucial missing puzzle needed to liven up Newcastle United’s attacking system is clearly a proper creative outlet. Indeed, while the arrival of Miguel Almiron in January did help on that front, having someone to take time on the ball to unleash the searingly quick Paraguayan would help the Magpies hit the next level. And then some.

Last season, Rafa Benitez’s side had a very limited creative approach, often seeking help from the wing-backs or old-school tactics to score goals. Yes, it worked, but that cannot be a long-term strategy.

However, the Spaniard’s aiming to change that this season. Apparently, the Magpies want to acquire a prime creative force, who can force through attacking moves and bring more flair down the middle, unleashing what hopefully remains of the 'Three Amigos'. Indeed, according to the Sun back on May 21st, they have their eyes on Juan Mata, who seems set to be leaving Manchester United after a four-year journey.

More recently, pundit Kevin Kilbane, speaking to Off the Ball's official YouTube account (24/05/2019) via HITC, also feels like they should sign the Spanish magician. If that wasn't enough, the Chronicle even believe such links make sense.

Well, Mata might lack the agility or raw pace which many teams crave for, but he makes up with his glorious work on the ball. Even in very limited time, he created special moments for the Red Devils with his incisive passes and wonderful footwork in the final third.

Frankly, he'd be the best player to pull on the black and white strip in absolutely years. Kevin Kilbane is right, who'd have thought it?

Mata’s introduction can revamp Newcastle’s attacking system, removing the old-school demeanour from them. Rather, they could actually play beautiful attacking football with the Spaniard as their enforcer. The 31-year-old’s special vision, exquisite passes in the final third and knack of getting amongst goals can really upgrade their attack.

Perhaps his arrival can also urge Ayoze Perez to stick around. If he gets to lead Newcastle’s attack with the perfect playmaker like Mata behind him, the Spaniard can easily outdo his last season’s heroics. If Newcastle wants to adopt a smoother attacking style, allowing the 31-year-old to dictate things can produce wonderful results.
