Loads of Magpies have reacted to Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder’s report on how Steve Bruce’s failure to sign a striker in January could end up helping Newcastle United in the summer.
Ryder revealed Magpies boss Steve Bruce believes the club’s cautious transfer strategy at the start of the year will massively payoff before the start of next season.
The sports reporter went on to add the head coach admitted: “Newcastle were offered a host of players who were just desperate for any type of move in January.”
However, Bruce chose to ignore the scraps on offer and decided to save his spending money ahead of the upcoming transfer window. It remains to be seen whether or not his approach will reap the rewards before the beginning of the 2020/2021 campaign.
The Mags are in desperate need of a proven goalscorer as Joelinton has failed to hit the ground running at St. James’ Park. The 23-year-old has shockingly only scored 1 goal in 29 Premier League appearances, averaging only 1.4 shots per game, and been dispossessed 1.8 times on average in the English top-flight (WhoScored).
An initial post from the website’s official Twitter account and Ryder’s follow-up tweet prompted lots of comments from the Toon Army, with some fans scratching their heads at the football writer’s analysis. Another supporter implied it’s “not really the relevant time to be thinking about summer signings” due to the coronavirus pandemic.

No excuse for not being fully prepared when life resumes some sort of normality. I’m sure penfold will find a way though
