Responding to a Twitter post by the Chronicle, Newcastle United fans have been in uproar over some ‘embarrassing‘ statistics garnered since manager Steve Bruce’s appointment back in the summer of 2019 – including lowest average possession in Europe’s top five leagues.
The statistical analysis, published on social media, details Newcastle’s severe lack of authority in certain areas – with Bruce’s side averaging the lowest possession percentage in Europe’s top five divisions (39.2%), lowest time in the final third (22 minutes), among the fewest goals from open play this season (11) and taking on fewer shots than the likes of Burnley and La Liga relegation battlers Celta Vigo.
These numbers, whilst they don’t make for pretty viewing, could also be an indication of Bruce’s negativity going forward at points this campaign – with the Magpies boss often sitting deep and defending in a compact formation. In response to the numbers, many supporters have criticised the manager amid these alarming statistics.

The league table doesn’t lie apparently. If you believe some journalists, watching nufc under Bruce is just like watching Brazil 1970
