According to The Chronicle, Steve Bruce has revealed he is keen to sign Danny Rose on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur this summer. Some members of the Toon Army have since shared their views on social media.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has made it clear the 29-year-old is surplus to requirements and it finally looks like his long stint in London will be brought to an abrupt end (via the Northern Echo).
After being shipped out to St James’ Park in January for the rest of the season, Rose has featured in 5 Premier League games for Bruce’s Black and Whites, averaging 1.4 tackles per game, making 1.2 clearances on average, and recording a pass success rate of 77.7% via WhoScored.
The Magpies boss told the outlet: “I am delighted with him. That is the quality we brought in and that is the quality we aspire to. That is what we need.”
On the other hand, injured loanee Jetro Willems has played in 19 fixtures in the English top tier, completing 1.9 tackles on average, registering 2 clearances per game, and successfully completing 1.1 dribbles (WhoScored). The Dutch international has also produced some stunning screamers throughout the campaign, including a remarkable finish against league leaders Liverpool at the start of the season.
Who's the better player?
Therefore, several Geordies have expressed their frustration with the head coach’s comments, with one angry fan claiming they “wouldn’t take him on a free.” Another simply stated “please, no!”
Take a look at some of the exasperated reactions down below…
He’d be my 4th choice at LB this season, Willems, Dummett and Ritchie all better in that position. Wouldn’t take him on a free.

Willems is miles better

Surely he has to play better than he has so far. Otherwise it’s just buying on reputation. Something Bruce has been guilty of at previous clubs

Rose is Massively overrated. Willems, even though he had a few rough patches is better in my opinion plus he’s younger so he has time to get better.

And fitter, and younger.
