Newcastle United: Magpies fans react to Tim Krul’s birthday message

Newcastle United: Magpies fans react to Tim Krul’s birthday message - Newcastle United

Several Newcastle United supporters reacted to a post from the club’s official Twitter account wishing former Magpie Tim Krul a happy birthday.

After joining the Tyneside academy for a mere £207k in July 2005, Krul featured in 185 appearances for the Black and Whites, keeping 58 clean sheets and only conceding 279 goals in all competitions. He has played in 184 games in the Premier League, saving 46 clean sheets, taking 237 high claims, and completing 185 sweeper clearances so far.

The former Dutch international has also played for a number of sides including AZ Alkmaar, Brighton & Hove Albion, Carlisle United, and Falkirk FC. Krul currently plies his trade between the sticks at Norwich City, who are rock-bottom of the table, and his market value is estimated at £4.5m via Transfermarkt. It remains to be seen whether or not the board will allow him to leave in the summer if the Canaries get relegated to the Championship.

Obviously, given his long spell at St James’ Park, some Geordies still have fond memories of the veteran keeper. Head coach Steve Bruce faces a goalkeeper dilemma that desperately needs resolving, and some fans will be hoping the shot-stopper will return someday to lend his experience to Martin Dubravka and Freddie Woodman. One commented the 32-year-old was a “loyal servant” and another admitted they are “still disappointed” he ended up leaving the club.
