Newcastle United: Magpies plot transfer swoop for Lille star Victor Osimhen

Following a slow start to the new campaign despite impressive wins over Spurs and Manchester United, Steve Bruce and company are already plotting their next moves in the coming transfer windows.
The latest potential recruitment linked with a move to St James Park in the summer is Lille striker Victor Osimhen, according to the Chronicle, who’s impressive scoring run has already turned the heads of top footballing scouts across Europe.
Osimhen moved to Lille this season, penning a five-year contract worth a reported £12 million-plus add-ons from Belgian side Charleroi.
The Nigerian forward’s incredible start to life in France has seemingly stoked interest in the player – with the striker netting seven goals in 10 games, whilst also grabbing two assists, as per WhoScored.com.
Indeed, his standout performances have also earned him a French Player of the Month award, and at just 20-years-old, Newcastle United are keeping a watchful eye over the player’s progress – especially considering their success with Ligue 1 transfers in the past.
Speaking to Chronicle Live, Bruce hinted at a possible January endeavour for fresh talent, with Osimhen being firmly on the radar.
“We’ll start planning in the next couple of weeks, but January is always a difficult window,” explained the Newcastle manager.
“Well see what’s out there.”
His loan spell in the Belgian first division last season was a great success, having scored 20 goals in 36 games across all competitions, and Osimhen has transferred that fine form across the continent into a tougher league.
Goals have been a problem this season, with club-record signing Joelinton bagging just goal so far. In fact, no Toon player has scored more than one goal over the course of the campaign thus far.
If Newcastle United opt to sign the Nigerian international, there is no evidence that would suggest he couldn’t upgrade divisions again and keep finding the back of the net.
Whether or not Osimhen could join the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye in the successful Ligue 1 transfer list is yet to be seen, but so far the youngster has proven that he can keep scoring goals at the very top level.
