Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will have been disappointed to learn the news that one of their most exciting prospects to come out of the club for the past few years is set to leave in the summer, having failed to make a breakthrough.
According to reports made by the Chronicle Live, Mackenzie Heaney is to leave St. James’ Park at the end of the season having struggled to make an impact with the Under-23’s, having made just seven appearances in this year’s campaign.
The 19-year-old was wanted by both Scotland and England, with both battling to get the player on their national books, although he did appear for both. He was with the Tartan Army during his time at school, although he decided to switch to the Three Lions and represent them eight times at the Under-18 stage.
Heaney is not expected to have to wait long for a potential suitor to give him a chance to play, with Norwich City rumoured to be weighing up an offer for the midfielder, after he spent last week on trial with the Canaries.
Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be disappointed to lose one of their brightest prospects from the academy, especially with the news the club would not be set to earn any compensation should he join the Championship outfit. Heaney is not the only prospect to leave the club recently, which could worry the Toon Army about the future of talent coming through to the senior side.
