Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern aren’t too impressed with the weekend’s result, as maintaining leads continues to be the Magpies’ kryptonite.
Rafa Benitez has had a season to forget thus far as his Newcastle United side just can’t manage to string a run of performances together, with competitors turning on the style causing for unsettling times at St James’ Park. And, as if things couldn’t get much worse for Benitez, one of the Magpies’ outcasts is the latest to take a swipe at the Spaniard. As according to reports in the Chronicle Live, midfielder Jack Colback has kicked out at Benitez after providing an honest account of how his Tyneside exit really came about.
The 28-year-old became heavily out-of-favour under the Spaniard since joining the top-flight, causing for the midfielder to live in a Newcastle United nightmare as an exit always loomed large for Colback. However, it was even worse than many fans imagined after the former Sunderland man came out to say that he was shown a “Lack of respect” and was treated “Like a number, more than a human being”.
Indeed, Benitez soon made his intentions for the midfielder clear after he was banished from the Under-23s, despite being named in the Magpies’ 25-man squad for the Premier League season, after being told he was surplus to requirements for the club. And, ever since has failed to make a single appearance for United this season, as he joined the long list of Newcastle United players currently stagnating behind the scenes. But on Wednesday did manage to secure an all important loan move away, as Aitor Karanka’s Nottingham Forest snapped him up for the rest of the campaign.
However, this wasn’t all that went on as the midfielder shared his experience on his time on Tyneside:
“I’m not sure [why I wasn’t given respect], I’m not the one who should be answering that – you’ll have to ask the boss back home.
“I think the disappointing thing is the way it’s been dealt with. I’ve been treated like a number more than a human being.
“There’s nothing I think I could have done differently. It was his choice, he said he had too many numbers, I was named in the squad of 25 but still couldn’t manage to train with the first team, and that’s the way it goes.”
Jack Colback has been a loyal servant to the club with the lack of respect shown by Benitez causing for bad memories of a place he called home. Although, in the Premier League the midfielder was arguably punching above his weight, but the process of him leaving the club could of been handled with a bit more care. Nevertheless, having secured a move away from St James’ Park, the 28-year-old is expected to never feature in the black and white stripes again.
