Newcastle United refuse to dismiss January move for Champions League winner

Recent suggestions that Mike Ashley was ready to put his hand in his pocket this month have absolutely delighted the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern. Indeed, the punters propping up our bar are desperate for a new striker to arrive before the end of the window as their Premier League survival hopes hang in the balance.

With that in mind, comments within the Chronicle’s report hinting at some potential club-record movement on a striker deal have proven really rather interesting. According to them, sources close to the Tyneside have refused to distance themselves too far from a move for Everton striker, Sandro Ramirez.

The Spaniard, who picked up a Champions League medal during his time with Barcelona, was touted as a loan target at St. James’ Park over the weekend and a loan move for him isn’t thought to have been totally dismissed by those close to the club.

While he’s done little to impress at Everton, the 22-year-old is clearly a talented player and would certainly be a popular addition to a Magpies side struggling for goals.

Landlord’s Verdict:

If Ramirez can spearhead the Newcastle attack effectively, it could be a masterstroke signing by those on Tyneside. Though it’s been a slog this season, the idea of bringing a Champions League winner in during the winter break would be a huge boost at St. James’ Park.
