Football Insider have reported that the ‘door is open’ for Newcastle United to make a summer move for Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
News emerged on Friday afternoon that Mauro Icardi will complete a permanent move to the Ligue 1 champions this summer after a relatively good loan spell from Inter Milan this term.
Cavani, will see his contract expire this summer with the Parisian club and it is not expected that an offer of renewal will come from PSG.
The 33-year-old is expected to have plenty of other offers from a number of European clubs, having scored an impressive 200 goals in 301 games for PSG, whilst also having previously good spells with Napoli and Palermo.
This would prove to be quite a coup and statement if Newcastle can pull off a move for Cavani, but the striker’s salary and offers from elsewhere may prove to be tricky.
The expected takeover at Newcastle will see a number of changes at the club, but it may be better for those changes to come gradually.
Cavani is a great talent and still has plenty of ability, but how many years will Newcastle get out of him in the energetic and fast paced Premier League?
